Scientific accompaniment of the IWW at this year's Archimedean Sandbox
This year, for the eighth time, the Archimedean sandbox was set up again at the Katschhof in Aachen. The annual Archimedean Workshop, which is a vacation program for children, had the theme "Water Games" this year. The vacation camp started on 03.07.23 with an excursion to the IWW's experimental hall for hydraulic engineering. Here, the children and young people were offered an insight into current research in order to awaken enthusiasm for water-related topics at a young age.
The IWW was also represented at the action day on 28.07.23 at the Katschhof. In our morphodynamic model the children could try out sand and water to simulate processes in a river course. Furthermore, the quick filling of sandbags with a sandbag shovel could be tested, which is an important task in the course of the unplanned mobile flood protection.
