54th IWASA - Managing flooding

Two years after the flood disaster: Lessons from the reconstruction process

On the 11th and 12th of January 2024 we invite you again to the IWASA in Aachen: The symposium will focus on the 2021 flood disaster in North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate, focusing on the reconstruction and addressing challenges and also lessons that can be derived from it. The presentations will address the topics of early warning, risk communication, damage, reconstruction and preparedness.
IWASA gives you the opportunity to learn and exchange experiences and best practices in dealing with flood disasters. The symposium aims to provide ideas and impulses for solutions and strategies to better cope with future events, minimize the risk of flood damage and strengthen the resilience of affected regions.

Registration

The 54th IWASA will take place on January the 11th and 12th, 2024 in forum M of the Mayersche Buchhandlung Aachen; the lectures will also be broadcast online. Binding registration is required for participation in Aachen, as the number of places is limited. Unlike in the past, it is not possible to register on site at the beginning of the symposium. Please also register if you would like to follow the presentations online so that you receive all the necessary information at the beginning of January. Participation in the symposium is free of charge. Please note that the venue unfortunately does not allow for an accompanying exhibition with companies from the industry.

Further information on the program and the opportunity to register can be found here: https://iww.idloom.events/IWASA-2024

About the International Hydraulic Engineering Symposium Aachen

Every year at the beginning of January, we organize a two-day symposium on current topics in hydraulic engineering and water management. Over the decades, this International Hydraulic Engineering Symposium Aachen, IWASA for short, has established itself as a popular meeting and information point for experts. It is primarily aimed at civil engineers from the fields of hydraulic engineering and water management, but is generally open to all interested parties. The lectures are given by invited speakers. The topicality and relevance of the selected topics attract around 350 to 450 participants from Germany and nearby countries every year.

The accompanying conference proceedings are published by Shaker-Verlag. IWASA took place online from 2021 to 2023. No conference proceedings were published for these years.
