Physical Model Experiments
Much of the work carried out at the institute centres around finding a solution to hydraulic problems, such as proof of efficiency or the optimisation of hydraulic engineering structures using physical model experiments in the laboratory. The institute can draw on its many years of experience in model construction and its extensive selection of measuring equipment that facilitate the detailed study of complex structures and hydraulics-related issues.
Besides the use of commercial measuring devices, special problems can often only be resolved by adapting or further developing existing systems. Entirely custom-developed systems have also proven to be valuable. A 2,250 m² hydraulics laboratory is available to the institute for working on these many issues.
The institute has numerous measuring techniques for determining flow depth, flow velocity and flow discharge. These include:
