Extended field trip 2018

The IWW and ISA field trip 2018 took place from 22 to 26 May 2018 as a bicycle excursion through the Ruhr and Emscher region and was organised jointly by both chairs.

Different companies and projects were presented to the participating students. The knowledge taught in the courses from the different areas of urban water management, hydraulic engineering and water management was presented in a descriptive way to the students using practical experience.

On Tuesday, a train took the students from Aachen to Soest. From there the journey continued by bike and led first to the Möhne dam. On Wednesday the students visited the sewage treatment plants Arnsberg-Neheim and Schwerte. On Thursday the Herdecke pumped storage power station and the weir including fish ladder at Lake Kemnade were visited. On Friday the trip led to the Überruhr waterworks and the weir at Lake Baldeney. On Saturday, the construction site of the pumping station in Oberhausen was visited. The excursion was concluded on Saturday with a visit to the Emschermündung sewage treatment plant before returning to Aachen by train from Duisburg.
