In the summer term, we offer a field trip to regional destinations related to water management that have a permanent impact on our cultural landscape.

The programme includes entry to a brown coal opencast mine to observe up close the activities that require the lowering of the groundwater table between Cologne, Düsseldorf and Aachen in the long term. On this trip, you also have the opportunity to see hydraulic engineering in harmony with nature for yourself at a section of the Inde river. You can assess the extent to which man-made stretches of water are gradually accepted by nature and how remaining difficulties can be resolved by means of sustainable engineering intervention.
