Water resource management and surface mining
Course description
Students acquire in-depth knowledge of water resource management in the Lower Rhine lignite mining area. The class provides general information on the open-cast mines as well as special knowledge on the subject areas of groundwater wells and accompanying water management systems and treatment and use of swamp water. Further topics are the renaturation of rivers as well as the water management for post-mining landscape design.

Learning Objectives
The students improve their knowledge of water management in the Lower Rhine lignite mining area. In addition to general information about the open-cast mines in the Lower Rhine lignite area, the students acquire special knowledge about groundwater wells, water management systems, treatment and use of swamp water and renaturation of rivers.
